“I am excited for another evening of the Village’s most creative and totally ridiculous monthly drag contest, Gowntown.

The B-Girlz, however, take it very seriously, with much work going into the planning and execution of this night that combines computer-controlled visuals, skits and tongue-in-cheek songs.

The contestants themselves are always just a bit off kilter — not your typical Woody’s performers. Take Yura, who performs an odd little ballet with his arms as his legs. Or Paris Hamilton, who, at almost eight feet in heels, has to be the tallest drag queen working.

But winning the wire-hanger trophy and some other odds and ends is third-time entrant Portia Glamour. “I’ve actually been doing drag for 10 years,” she tells me, clutching her trophy to her padded bra. I am impressed that she can now actually walk to the beat of the music."

YURA strutted off with $100, a $50 gift certificate from Out on the Street & a wire hanger after a channeling Kyle Minogue and Tina Turner (strangely you never see them in the same room together).

A big thank you to all of the fabulous contestants who are all stars! GINA HAMILTON feat PAREZ HAMILTON, KYLA RAYNE, PORTIA GLAMOORE, SKIPPER MEDS our fantastic special guests IAN LYNCH and KARAMEL. Dwayne Minard rocked the decks while simultaneously dating contest winner Dennis. Now that's multitasking.

GOWNTOWN's: 4th Contest Ball winner was MISS DREAMA SHEEN who performed a number from EVIL DEAD while giving a "tip of the hat" to Molly Shannon in Superstar!

Honourable mention goes to first time ever on stage, PORTIA GLAMOORE who gave Lady Gaga a run for her disco stick.

And of course all of our other wonderful performers who are all stars in their own minds... Serial killer SKIPPER MEDS, and homemaker in need of an intervention, Miss JENNA SYDE.

Special Guest appearance by house music artist and super cutie STEVEN TAETZ and comedy duo LIZA & CAROL.
